Old Bond Comes To New Blu-ray
The best thing about a new Bond flick hitting theaters (Quantum of Solace in theaters Nov 14) is that it gives the studios yet another excuse to re-release the classic Bond movies we all know and love. Thanks to Blu-ray winning the format war, there’s even a cause beyond cashing in on a timely release, with six classic Bond adventures coming to Blu-ray on October 21st.
We’ve gotten a look at the specs and cover art for the new Bond releases, which include Sean Connery’s Dr. No, From Russia With Love, and Thunderball; Roger Moore’s Live and Let Die and For Your Eyes Only, and Pierce Brosnan’s Die Another Day. Each movie has a matching packaging that features each Bond wielding his pistol along with each movie’s specific Bond babe highlighted behind the super-spy. Through the gun barrel, a shot from one of each movie’s respective action sequences can be seen, usually involving one of Bond’s vehicles.
As for the specs, each disc is pretty well loaded, with Interactive Guides into each movie and previously released featurettes refinished in HD. I’m particularly excited about some of the Exotic Locations featurettes and how they’ll look in HD.
I’m a little curious about the movie selection that’s being released in what I hope will be wave one of several, so that all Bond movies will have a similar release. Two of Bond’s most popular outings, Goldfinger and Octopussy are absent, and they’ve picked what many would argue to be the weakest of Brosnan’s film (although it does give them the excuse to put Halle Berry on the cover). And no Dalton? What a shame.
Here’s a look at the specs for each respective release. Be sure to click on the gallery below to see the DVD covers for each movie as well.
