Carnahan Dishes Smokin Aces: Blowback
We’ve reported a couple of times about Smokin’ Joe Carnahan, creator of Smokin’ Aces and his plans for a prequel that will head straight for DVD. Well, Carnahan has offered another update through his blog and the news is good.
First of all, the prequel has a name: Smokin’ Aces: Blowback. Actually, that was posted about a week ago but somehow I missed it. Unfortunately there’s no good news on the winner for the contest, as Carnahan came up with the title himself.
The really good news is that Universal has signed off on the movie script, without a single note for changes. Whether that’s a sign of the times (with a pending writer’s strike) or Carnahan’s script is actually that good is up for debate, although my money would be on the latter. I’m a big fan of Smokin’ Aces and if anyone is going to get a script for another movie right, it would be Carnahan.
The writer/director also says he’s going to try to get some of the cast of Smokin’ Aces into the prequel, if only in cameos. Obviously that’s always up in the air based on availability and interest – after all, Smokin’ Aces had a hell of a lot of names in it. To try and get even a few of them back could be quite the endeavor.
