Celebrate The Last Unicorn's 25th Anniversary With A New DVD Edition
One of my favorite childhood movies was the animated adaptation of Peter S. Beagle’s The Last Unicorn. Sure it had that campy music by America, but it also had a great story and some talented voices behind it. Alan Arkin, Angela Lansbury, Jeff Bridges, and of course Mia Farrow as the title Unicorn character and Christopher Lee (before everyone knew who he was) as the villainous King Haggard, a man responsible for hunting down and killing all but one unicorn. The story is another one of those Rankin Bass animated classics that manage to withstand the test of time.
The film got a fairly bare bones DVD release a few years ago (when being a full frame version and having 2.0 Dolby stereo were listed as “Special Features”). Now Lionsgate is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the film by releasing a new foil packaged edition that includes a featurette titled “The Tail of The Last Unicorn” and a set top game.
Okay, so it’s not the most plentiful bounty of extras available, but if you’re a big fan like me, it’s better than nothing. The 25th Anniversary Edition of The Last Unicorn will be released on DVD on February 6th. Check out some stills from the film below.
