Bernardo Bertolucci’s big film, 1972’s Last Tango in Paris, hit Blu-Ray for the first time on February 15th. The release came just a few weeks after actress Maria Schneider, who plays Jeanne in Bertolucci’s film, died in Paris, truly bringing new meaning to the title that made her famous at age 19.
Back in 1972, certain scenes in Last Tango in Paris, a story about an American man (Marlon Brando) and a young Frenchwoman (Schneider) having an affair, were viewed as lewd and lascivious. The film was even banned in Italy until 1986. In the States, the film still has an NC-17 rating, most memorably for a butter-infused sex scene.
Following are some heated scenes from the Last Tango in Paris. While there is no extreme nudity or language, there is some innuendo, so I’d suggest kicking young kids out of the room before you watch. The clips are certainly worth a viewing, though.
