Criterion Unveils New Three Reasons Campaign
I imagine the Criterion Collection board is probably comprised of a panel of bloviating, film-loving geezers looking to spread “elevated” opinions to a niche market. That being said, the Criterion Collection is so cool. They were pioneers in bringing the letterbox format into homes in the '80s, as well as other crazy technological mumbo-jumbo advances you’re probably uninterested in. What the Collection is most known for is re-releasing old and modern classics in neat packaging, often doing restoration work to make the films more effective on modern televisions.
Since the restoration process is long and complicated, and release dates of these films are subject to change, Criterion has now designed a way to keep their soon-to-be released movies on the forefront. The idea is “Three Reason” trailers, meant to give you three reasons to get excited about upcoming films. Three trailers have been created thus far: The Sweet Smell of Success, set for release on February 22nd, The Times of Harvey Milk, set to hit the market on March 22nd, and Topsy-Turvy, which will be ready for home viewing on March 29th.
