Cue The Theme Song: Pink Panther 2 Comes To Blu-Ray
Did we really need a modern version of The Pink Panther, let alone a sequel? Yes, big box office numbers do make sequels sensible, but certainly not necessary. Warning: The Pink Panther 2 may cause dizziness from excessive eye rolling, severe embarrassment and the tarnishing of some of your favorite comedians. Odds are, you won’t be seeing that disclaimer on the box when MGM Home Entertainment releases the film on DVD and Blu-ray June 23rd.
Steven Martin reprises his role as the bumbling Inspector Jacques Clouseau. He’s called upon by the Government of France to join a dream team of detectives from across the globe to track down a master thief. The Tornado has stolen a number of the world’s most valuable treasures, the most recent item being the coveted Pink Panther Diamond. John Cleese assumes Kevin Kline’s part of Chief Inspector Dreyfus while Jean Reno and Emily Mortimer reprise their roles as Clouseaus’ partner and love interest.
Not even a stellar cast can make The Pink Panther 2 worth your money. If you happen to come across $29.98 in the street, you can buy the two-disc DVD set, which comes with the film and 27 Pink Panther cartoons. Maybe you can keep the disc with cartoons and use the other as pocket mirror or coaster. If it’s really your lucky day and you find $39.99 under your sofa cushions, you can buy the Blu-ray set. This one comes with a whopping three discs, the first of which has the film, the second bonus material including a gag reel, “Drama is Easy … Comedy is Dangerous,” “A Dream Team Like No Other” and “Master Thief-Global Crime Showdown.” The third disc has those 27 Pink Panther cartoons.
Normally I’m a sucker for anything with a gag reel, but I just can’t bring myself to add this film to my library. If you’re considering buying this film – GET A CLUE – Martin has a huge repertoire of great comedic films to choose from that are actually worth your hard-earned money.
