The DVD Blend Is Threatened By The Monster Squad
Each week DVDs come out. Some of them are worth your time and money and some aren't. Some of them are movies I've seen, and some of them aren’t. Regardless, I give you my opinion on the big releases of the week. If the releases sound like something you want to buy, just click the link to go to Amazon.com and you’ll support Cinema Blend with a few pennies. Take it or leave it, here's the DVD Blend.
Cinema Blend Pick of the Week:
The Monster Squad
I have a confession to make: I have never seen The Monster Squad. I don’t know how the 1987 movie missed me, after all, you’d think over time this is the kind of movie that would be right up my Double Featuring alley. But I haven’t seen it. So how can it be the Cinema Blend pick of the week, you ask? After all, we try to be the bastion of reliability here. We cannot be bribed. We cannot be bought. But we can be threatened, and that’s exactly the position I find myself in this week. Those who heard my admission of never having seen Monster Squad on this week’s podcast threatened the life of those I hold most dear of I don’t tell you to go check out the movie that spawned the eternal line, “Wolfman’s got nards?” this week. And if you’re going to do that, now’s just as good a time as any, thanks to this two-disc 20th Anniversary DVD release. You go check it out (alright, I said it, can I have my dog back now?).

Row 1 - Cell 0 | The Number 23 - While I’m recommending movies I haven’t seen, I might as well carry that through this week’s picks. I love Jim Carrey in serious roles, but the stain of Joel Schumacher’s name was enough to keep me waiting for DVD (not to mention the premise of “23” seemed very thin). Now’s the time to take that long-awaited look. | Row 1 - Cell 2 | Zodiac - David Fincher’s look at the Zodiac killer rounds out this week’s top picks and mainstream releases. The film had a hard time living up to Fincher’s name from what I’ve heard (remember, I haven’t seen this week’s recommendations) and was overlooked by many in March, so now’s your chance to check it out. |
