DVD Blend Throws A Brick
Each week DVDs come out. Some of them are worth your time and money and some aren't. Some of them are movies I've seen, and some of them aren’t. Regardless, I give you my opinion on the big releases of the week. Cinema Blend Pick of the Week: |
BrickEvery once in a while a film comes along that decides to return to the roots of filmmaking and explore a genre that has somehow been left behind. Brick returns to the roots of film noir, placing a mystery at the center of the movie that has to be solved. Unlike the fedora wearing gumshoes of days past, however, the story is set inside a high school, where a lone teenager is struggling to uncover a seedy darkside in an effort to discover his girlfriend’s whereabouts. Now in fairness of disclosure, I haven’t seen Brick yet; it was subject to a small release and didn’t open in any theater near me, but I’ll definitely be picking this one up. The concept behind the movie and the fact that it pays homage to The Big Sleep and The Maltese Falcon (two of my favorites) makes this a movie I can’t pass by.Click to puchase Brick |

Row 1 - Cell 0 | The Inside Man - Clive Owen performs the bulk of this movie behind a mask, following V for Vendetta on DVD like earlier this year in theaters. At its heart this is a heist flick, placing Owen’s bank robber against Denzel Washington, although the characters within the story are what make things really interesting. | Row 1 - Cell 2 | C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America - Another one I haven’t seen yet with a concept too interesting for me to pass by. Imagine our world if the Confederacy had won the Civil War. Presented in a documentary style, that’s what this film explores. Another movie I plan on checking out, and with other options like another Bring it on sequel, one of the better releases this week. |
