DVD Brings You The Death Theaters Wouldn’t Touch
A lot of the time you’ll find me complaining about DVD being used for cheap, poorly done, direct to home video sequels. The DVD format is cheap to produce, allowing studios to abuse the format for quick money. Every once in a while, however, the studios redeem themselves and prove just how valuable the home entertainment market can be.
Lionsgate is taking advantage of the DVD format to bring Death of a President to the masses. You might remember the “documentary” style film causing a lot of fuss late last year for its depiction of the assassination of U.S. President George W. Bush on October 19th, 2007. Intended to show the effects of violence, the film was instead deemed to controversial for a wide release.
On April 3rd, Death of a President is being released on DVD with a few extras that should prove to be interesting, mostly focused on discussions with the filmmakers:
- Audio commentary with director Gabriel Range
- Audio commentary with director/co-producer/co-writer Gabriel Range, editor Brand Thumim, co-producer/co-writer Simon Finch and line producer Donall McCusker
- Interviews with the filmmakers – discussion of the motivation behind and process that went into the making of the film
Check out the cover art below for this April 3rd release.
