Denny Crane Heads For DVD Again
I’m not typically one for legal shows – there’s just been an oversaturation of them in recent years. The one exception for me has been Boston Legal which is quirky, comedic, and one of the best written shows on television.
I’ll admit, I first got into the show because of William Shatner and James Spader. I can’t even claim to have followed The Practice before Legal was on. So it may have been Shatner and Spader who got me to tune in, but the cast has grown significantly, and with it has come even more genius, such as Candice Bergen as senior partner Shirley Schmidt and Rene Auberjonois.
The third season of Boston Legal is headed for DVD on September 18th, and with it comes even more brilliant casting. Craig Bierko, Constance Zimmer, and Gary Anthony Williams joins the cast, and Christian Clemenson shows up so frequently as Jerry “Hands” Espinson that his character might as well be a regular (which he will become on the fourth season).
The third season includes some of the show’s best moments to date, including the competition between Mark Valley and Craig Bierko’s characters that led to a duke out dressed as Buzz Lightyear. Along the way, Denny is put on trial, Alan is found in contempt, and hilarity definitely ensues, although not everything is all laughs. Shatner in particular has some nice, serious moments about growing old that always makes me wonder how much is character and how much is the actor speaking.
The Boston Legal: Season Three set includes all 24 episodes of the third season and two featurettes, “Out of Order” and “Character Witness”. The set will hit shelves on September 18th. Take a look at the artwork below:
