Details On Special 300 Content

Yesterday we ran a story on how you can compete in the Join the 300 contest to win some cool prizes, including a set visit for Zach Snyder’s next film, Watchmen. What I realized since then is that we never posted the specs on that upcoming 300 DVD release.

The July 31st home release is really shaping up to show off the next generation of home entertainment. Sure the movie is available on DVD, with single disc widescreen and fullscreen editions and a two-disc special edition. But it’s also being made available on both high definition formats: Blu-ray and HD DVD Combo. It’s the high definition formats that are really getting the lion’s share of extras however.

All releases boast 90 minutes of bonus material, including a featurette looking at Spartans from a fact vs. fiction viewpoint, and deleted scenes featuring more of that traitorous hunchback. The high definition formats get more. The format that really has me intrigued (and not just because I have an HD DVD player) is the Bluescreen Picture-in-Picture view of the movie on the HD DVD release, which featues Snyder comparing the pre-effect footage with the final movie. This is the kind of bonus material I’ve been waiting for since George Lucas hinted at doing it with The Phantom Menace.
