Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules Goes Public In June
People seem to be have been surprised at how watchable the two Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies are, but if they knew anything about children’s literature, they wouldn’t have been. Jeff Kinney’s series is thoughtful and entertaining, and the films are directly based on the premises he originated. So, although director David Bowers had a rather small budget to work with, he also had a solid foundation to begin with, made firmer with the inclusion of Steve Zahn. With that said, if you need to entertain your kids on a rainy day, you could do worse than the Diary of a Wimpy Kid franchise. The first movie has been out since last August, but if you’re eagerly anticipating the second, you won’t have to wait much longer. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules will be hitting Blu-Ray and DVD on June 21st.
There are going to be three separate Rodrick Rules releases to choose from, including a one-disc DVD, a two-disc DVD, and a three-disc Blu-Ray/DVD/digital disc set. The main difference in the sets, other than the technological stuff, seems to be the number of “My Summer Vacation” shorts and deleted scenes accompanying. Each release, including the bare bones one-disc DVD, will at least come with a couple of shorts, the trailer, and audio commentary. However, if you decide to spring for the Blu-Ray, not only will you get more deleted scenes, more shorts, and a gag reel, you’ll also get an alternate ending.
As box office rates show, ticket sales for Rodrick’s Rules were down from sales of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The film still made money, so the studio might be on board to make another installation of the series. However, if you’re a huge fan, boosting sales might ensure Greg and Rowley will be back for round three.
