Disney DVD Says Ev'rybody Wants To Be A Cat
Disney continues to rotate through its library of animated feature films. This year The Aristocats gets the two-disc Special Edition treatment, and it’s about time. Although some may call the movie a hybrid of Lady and the Tramp and 101 Dalmations, it’s still one of my favorite Disney tales.
The Aristocats tells the story of a pampered housecat (voiced by Eva Gabor), who finds herself and her three kittens in need of help from an alley cat after they find themselves facing off with a butler who is jealous of the cats getting the inheritance from their owner’s death. Phil Harris’s Thomas O’Malley is almost as solid a character as the actor’s portrayal of Baloo, if not as well known, and the cast is filled with Disney regulars, including Sterling Holloway, Paul Winchell, and Thurl Ravenscroft. And, of course, who can forget the classic musical number, “Ev'rybody Wants to be a Cat,” from the Sherman Brothers (best known for their work on Mary Poppins).
The DVD will include a lot of the things we’ve come to expect from Disney DVDs, like deleted musical numbers and content that is aimed specifically at adults or children, but not necessarily both. Take a look at the announced bonus material below, and pick up The Aristocats on two-disc Special Edition Disney DVD on February 5th.
