Double Your Trouble, Double Your Indemnity
Modern day mysteries often put too much focus on having a “twist,” relying on an overused plot device to help their story instead of crafting a decent tale to begin with. Want an example of how things should be done? How about Double Indemnity, the 1944 Fred MacMurray / Barbara Stanwyck movie about a couple attempting to commit the perfect crime and reap the insurance benefits. The Billy Wilder directed film was nominated for seven Oscars including Direction, Cinematography, Music, and Best Picture and Actress. It has since been remade, spoofed, and paid tribute as is fitting for a movie of this caliber.
Now Double Indemnity is becoming a part of Universal’s Legacy Series with an August 22nd release. We haven't gotten a whole lot of details on bonus materials, but the past Legacy releases have been pretty worthwhile. If you haven’t seen this classic picture, I highly recommend you take this chance and see why today’s movies are sorely lacking in the story area.
