Earl Crosses A Second Season On DVD Off His List
The basic concept behind “My Name is Earl” is genius. A country simpleton, who has spent his life doing bad, decides karma is catching up with him. So he makes a list of all the people he wrongs, and each week he goes on a quest to make amends and mark people off his list. The writers decided from day one things wouldn’t be so simple for Earl Hickey (Jason Lee) though, so no episode turns out to be exactly what Earl and his brother Randy (Ethan Suplee) set out to do.
The second season of “My Name is Earl,” coming out on DVD on September 25th, stepped things up a notch. Now there wasn’t only Earl’s list as a strand to connect the episodes together, but there was actually an story arch that connected the season: Earl’s ex-wife Joy (Jaime Pressley) hitting her third strike and in danger of going to jail. Along the way a lot of the people Earl surrounds himself with turn out not to be quite what they seem, right down to the innocent Crab-Man (Eddie Steeples)
Although the second season DVD set doesn’t look like it quite comes up to the first season, which had an excellent alternate pilot episode that totally changed the nature of the show, this is still quite an interesting set, with another blooper reel, deleted scenes spanning the four discs, webcam episodes, and a featurette about “Earl” as a telenovela.
