Eighties Cult Classic Show Robin Of Sherwood Coming To Blu-Ray
No matter how many times they reboot the legend of Robin Hood in order to squeeze a few more drops of blood from the stone, for me the definitive version will always be Robin of Sherwood, which starred first Michael Praed, and later Jason Connery, as the Hooded Man. Created by Richard Carpenter, the show aired on Showtime in the U.S. and on the ITV Network in Britain. It was a gritty take on the legend that also mixed in elements of pagan mysticism such as the forest god, Herne the Hunter. Even a quarter century later, the show still holds up, and DVD copies of the show have held a place of honor on my shelves for a while now.
Now Acorn Media has announced that the show is coming to Blu-ray on June 7th. Robin of Sherwood: Set 1 will list for $79.99, and it's available for pre-order on Amazon right now. The set will include a ton of bonus features, including episode commentaries, several making-of documentaries, new featurettes with the directors and actors, outtakes, music-only tracks, photo galleries, and PDF copies of scripts and the original story treatment that you can view on your computer.
If you've never seen the show, I can't recommend it highly enough. If you're already a fan, why are you still reading this? You should be pre-ordering!
