Erik Stifler Runs Again
It seems those wacky Stifler kids just can’t stop having fun. Disregard the fact that Stifler was just a supporting character in the original American Pie trilogy (what we’ll call, “the real movies”) and has had nothing to do with the direct to video franchise that has followed. Stifler’s family keeps having crazy fun and you’re invited along for yet another ride.
The latest adventure follows Erik Stifler. You remember him from the last movie, American Pie: The Naked Mile (or at least the two of you who saw that flick do). It’s time for Erik to go off to college, which involves him getting back together with his friends from the last movie (including cousin Dwight) and pledging greek. The result? American Pie: Beta House. Seriously, the “American Pie” label is about to get as tired and representative of near-porn as “National Lampoons” has gotten.
Moviehole is reporting that Beta House is entering pre-production in Toronto currently and, of course, the movie will be a direct to DVD flick. The plot involves Erik pledging into a fraternity and then the age-old battle between geeks and non-geeks when Beta House faces off with GEK house. And, of course, it wouldn’t be an American Pie flick without some sort of romantic angle, this time in the form of Ashely, a super-cute catch who starts to worry about Erik when he puts off their relationship in favor of Greek pursuits.
No release date has been announced and the picture is only in pre-production right now, but I can’t imagine it takes too long to put one of these together. While the key cast members from Naked Mile are returning, I’ll cross my fingers and hope Eugene Levy has remembered he’s funnier than these movies and finally decided to sit one out. I mean, even Steve Guttenberg stopped with Police Academy 4. I’ll just go ahead and place the wager now that we’ll see both regular and unrated editions of American Pie: Beta House despite it being direct to DVD.
