Exclusive: Rachel Dratch Talks The DVD Fate Of Spring Breakdown
Yesterday a movie with a surprisingly quality cast was released straight-to-DVD. This happens once in a while, either for actors who haven't worked in a while or a project that just goes south during production. But in the case of Spring Breakdown, a comedy co-written by and starring Rachel Dratch, it was a long, tortured journey through several release dates and even a stint at the Sundance Film Festival, before being unceremoniously dumped in the DVD market.
Dratch is having a big week, as it turns out, with the DVD release of Spring Breakdown and also a role in My Life in Ruins, the Nia Vardalos comedy that opens this Friday. I talked to her during the My Life in Ruins junket about the strange fate of Spring Breakdown, and at which point she let the movie go through its own process and moved on with her life.
