Experience The Love, Pain, And Glory Of The Ram On DVD
Award season may be in the past, but that doesn’t mean you’re excused from having seen all of the nominees. Thanks to Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment you can see Mickey Rourke’s Academy Award nominated performance in The Wrestler on DVD and Blu-ray April 21st.
Mickey Rourke is Randy “The Ram” Robinson, an ex-professional wrestler looking to get back in the ring. Randy uses an offer to appear in a 20th anniversary rematch against his most notable opponent as a starting point to regain his wrestling fame. Unfortunately, the physical and emotional stresses of the job are working against him. Randy is also dealing with a number of personal issues including having feelings for a stripper played by Marisa Tomei and hoping to establish a relationship with his estranged daughter played by Evan Rachel Wood.
I don’t believe any convincing will be necessary to get you out of your house and to the store to pick up a copy of The Wrestler. The rave reviews and immense amount of awards the film received were well deserved and I’m looking forward to seeing a similar amount of enthusiasm when it hits DVD and Blu-ray in April. Even if you’ve already seen the film in theaters, it is most certainly worthy of a second viewing.
On top of simply being an amazing film to own, The Wrestler on DVD and Blu-ray will also bring viewers a nice selection of bonus material. Both versions will come with a featurette called “Within the Ring” as well as “The Wrestler” music video, which was written and performed by Bruce Springsteen. “Jai Ho” is a great song, but if you’re part of the mass of people immensely disappointed with Springsteen being omitted from the Best Song category at the Oscars, you’ll love having unlimited access to this music video.
It may not come with an action figure of The Ram, but The Wrestler is still worth the $39.99 on Blu-ray or $29.98 on DVD.
