First Look Collects Bruceploitation?
I wind up with some very strange DVDs sent to me out of the blue sometimes. I don’t usually review them, because their either too strange or poorly made (part of why I’m bringing back The DVD Blend to discuss some of them). One of this weekend’s collections just might be the strangest received yet, though.
First Look Entertainment is releasing “Dragon Immortal,” on DVD on January 27th. The ten picture collection explores the influence of Bruce Lee on martial arts pictures, or, as the collection calls it, “Bruceploitation.” Basically, it’s a collection of kung-fu pictures from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, the Phillippines, and other locales that tried to rip-off Lee’s appearance and films with their own creations.
I’ve been involved in film criticism for a while now (and a fan of film even longer) and I’ve heard of quite a bit of exploitation genres, but I have to admit this is the first I’ve heard of “Bruceploitation.” Check out the titles of the ten pictures included in the set below, which you can find on DVD on January 27th. No doubt I’ll talk a little bit more about this set in The DVD Blend in the coming weeks.
