Fountain Cover Art Botched
Audience reaction to Darren Aronofsky’s last movie The Fountain was all over the map. Some loved it, some hated it, but what almost everyone managed to agree on was that the film is visually stunning. That translated into the movie’s marketing campaign as well. Warner Brothers released a bevy of simply stunning promotional artwork in conjunction with the film, including a gorgeous movie poster which ranks right up there as one of my all time favorite one sheets.
With so much eye-popping visual flair to choose from, you’d think Warner Home Video would have no problem picking something to make their DVD release of The Fountain stand out when it finally hits store shelves on May 15th. You’d think so, but somehow they’ve managed to botch the whole thing.
Below (on the left) is the mangled, miserable, floating heads cover art Warner Brothers has chosen to foist upon anyone who buys The Fountain on DVD. It’s the kind of horrible cover art catastrophe that can only be fixed by a roll of duct tape unspoiled and stuck firmly over Rachel Weisz’s disembodied head. What were they thinking??
For reference, on the right is an example of the film’s beautiful poster art. How hard would it have been to stick that on a box?
