George Of The Jungle Swings On To DVD
Although I grew up a fan of classic cartoons like Underdog and Rocky and Bullwinkle, I never got into Jay Ward’s George of the Jungle. In fact, I don’t think I had even heard of the character until Weird Al covered the theme song on one of his albums. And then there was that 1997 Brendan Frasier live-action movie. Yeesh.
For others who missed out on the original cartoon, there’s good news. All seventeen episodes of the original series are headed for DVD on February 12th on a two-disc DVD set. You’ll get George of the Jungle, along with Ursula and Shep the elephant, who are joined by Super Chicken and Tom Slick, “the coolest race car driver this side of Frostbite Falls.” In fact, the announced bonus material includes never-before-seen pilot episodes for George and Super Chicken.
New episodes of George of the Jungle are currently running on Cartoon Network, but check out this release on February 12th to see the original series from Jay Ward.
