Get Your Balls Of Fury In December
Balls of Fury had a lot of quirky things going for it. A comedy about a giant ping-pong competition featuring actors like Christopher Walken, George Lopez, and Robert Patrick can only have so much widespread appeal, however. This is the kind of movie that’s just begging for a cult following on DVD, and clearly Universal is trying to support that with some interesting extras and excellent cover art as Balls of Fury heads to DVD on December 18th.
Personally, I had kind of hoped Balls of Fury would be able to brag one more star by the time it came out on DVD – I expect Dan Fogler, who plays the lead character in the movie, to be propelled forward when Fanboys finally comes out. Unfortunately that picture has been held until early next year, or at the very best this year’s Christmas schedule, losing the opportunity to cash in on his name.
Right now the most appealing thing about the DVD is the cover art, using an unmarred version of the second poster for the movie. I expect before the DVD comes out that at least one “ball” joke will be added to the cover to match the DVD contents, but I do like that pristine action shot.
Here’s a look at the tentatively scheduled DVD bonus materials. If anything changes before the December 18th release we’ll let you know:
- PRELIMINARY BONUS FEATURES:
- Deleted Scenes
- Alternate Ending -Rodriguez offers Randy a new assignment
- Balls Out: The Making of Balls of Fury: This “making of” features filmmakers Ben Garant and Tom Lennon discussing their rise from television to the big screen, as well as the training that went into making this film.
- Under the Balls: The Life of a Ball Wrangler: This tongue-in-cheek “mockumentary” explores a day in the life for the film’s ball wrangler.
