Go For The Gold With North Star
Want some gold? You’ll have to fight James Caan to get it. On April 14th you can travel to the land of gold and greed when Warner Home Video and New Regency bring you the 1996 action adventure North Star on DVD.
It’s the Alaskan gold rush of the late 1800’s and mining boss Sean McLennon (James Caan) is in control. McLennon is determined to gain control of every mining claim by any means necessary. But, when he sends his thugs after Hudson Santeek (Christopher Lambert), McLennon encounters a bit more trouble than he expects. Hudson takes McLennon’s mistress (Catherine McCormack) hostage and escapes into mountains. He scrambles to stay alive with McLennon and his men hot on his trail. The mining tycoon thinks his firepower gives him an edge, but he underestimates the power of Hudson’s survival skills and fighting ability.
North Star doesn’t seem to be a film people will run to the store to purchase, but it could be decent Sunday afternoon filler. Perhaps a little Western adventure could be a good late day pick-me-up. But after watching the trailer it seems the film’s dated look could drag it down. Then again, I guess that’s what gives the film a more Western feel. The DVD comes with the theatrical trailer, but if you want to take a look before spending the $14.97, check it out here.
