Gracie Kicks Onto DVD In September

When Gracie hit theaters last month I knew nothing about the movie. I mean absolutely nothing. By the time I found out what the movie was about, it was too late. The picture had finished its short run in my area and moved on. This is why I love DVD. Because now I know about Gracie, it’s something I want to check out.

Just a month after Gracie opened in theaters, New Line has announced its release onto home entertainment, with a September 18th.

If you don’t know anything about Gracie, it’s the story of a teenage girl who strives to play soccer on a boy’s soccer team. Her quest puts the girl up against school policy, her own parent’s wishes, and tough competition on the soccer field, but Gracie is convinced she will show the world “a girl with a dream can do absolutely anything.” (Okay, I borrowed that last bit verbatim from the press release, but I just like the flow of it – sue me).

The plot may sound a little mundane, but the movie is produced and co-stars Andrew Shue, who created the movie based on his own sister’s life – Elizabeth Shue. Now, Andrew’s best days may just be an appearance in The Karate Kid, but I’m a huge Elizabeth Shue fan, so a movie inspired by her youth definitely is something I’d like to see.

Even more interesting – Andrew and Elizabeth Shue are featured on the DVD’s commentary track, along with director Davis Guggenheim (An Inconvenient Truth). That commentary and a making-of featurette may be the only bonus material listed, but that very well may be all they need. A commentary with the people who inspired the movie (and appear in the movie) could be incredibly informative.

Gracie hits stores September 18th. Take a look at the planned artwork for the release:
