Have A Thing For Older Women? Check Out Cheri On DVD
I’d like to make some sort of cougar joke by way of introducing Cheri, but the copywriters at Miramax Films and Buena Vista Home Entertainment beat me to it. The press release for the DVD opens with “Before there were Cougars, there were Courtesans!” Clearly, there’s no way I can top that, so I’m not even going to try.
Cheri stars multiple Academy Award nominee Michelle Pfeiffer as courtesan Lea, who falls into a love affair with the 19-year-old son (Rupert Friend) of a former rival (Kathy Bates). Set against the backdrop of early 20th-century Paris, the film is written by Christopher Hampton (Atonement), directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen), and based on a novel by French novelist Colette. Not a bad crop of talent.
Cheri hits DVD October 20th for a suggested price of $29.99. For your 30 bucks, you’ll get the film, a “Making of Cheri” featurette, and some deleted scenes. More importantly, you’ll get to find out if Lea ever breaks out a Catwoman costume during her love affair with Cheri. There’s really no way you can put a price on that.
