What doomed us all in the world of The Road is never explained; in fact it's rather beside the point. Based on the novel by Cormac McCarthy, The Road is unconcerned with the big questions of the hows and the whys, and instead focuses on the very personal story of a father (Viggo Mortensen) and son (Kodi Smit-McPhee) struggling to survive.
