This Island Earth Lands August 22nd.
This Island Earth is one of those science fiction classics too few people have actually seen anymore. While many of the references and images from the movie still exist, very few people recognize where they are actually from. I would put the images of the Metaluna aliens right below the phrase “Klatuu Barada Nikto” from The Day the Earth Stood Still as far as blind recognition goes.
At it’s time the movie was quite a masterpiece. Starring Rex Reason as Dr. Meacham and Faith Domergue as Dr. Adams(let’s not forget about “The Professor” (Russell Johnson) from Gilligan’s Island putting in a special appearance), the good doctors are kidnapped from Earth by the Metalunans and placed on trial. The effects for the film, remarkable at the time, took over two and a half years to create.
This Island Earth is finally coming to DVD on August 22nd. If you haven’t checked this classic out before mark your calendars and plan on quite a treat.
