It's The Bob-Omb: Scott Pilgrim Rocking Onto Blu-Ray And DVD November 9th
I really hope Scott Pilgrim vs. The World will find an audience and become a cult classic on home video, because it hasn't even made its budget back yet, and that's just depressing. This is the sort of movie that people like us constantly complain Hollywood doesn't make anymore. But when they finally do, when they finally put out something interesting and crazy and memorable, what happens? Nobody actually goes to see the damn thing.
Based on the graphic novels by Bryan Lee O'Malley, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World introduces the title character (Michael Cera), a slackerly twentysomething who plays in the band Sex Bob-Omb, speaks in pop-culture-ese, and is dating a high schooler named Knives Chau (Ellen Wong). His adventures in jailbaiting are cut short, however, when sees/falls in love with/begins obsessing over a mysterious girl named Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). She's gorgeous, sultry, and you never know what color her hair will be on any given day -- there's just one catch. In order to date her, Scott will have to defeat her seven evil exes, who will now be trying to kill him. From there, the film tracks the course of Scott's courtship of Ramona, interspersed with video-game style boss battles against the exes, ranging from a super-powered vegetarian to a movie-star skateboarder backed up by an army of stunt doubles. It's crazy entertaining, and director Edgar Wright has succeeded in translating comic-book style and video-game energy in a way few others have. Bonus: if you hate Michael Cera, you get to watch him get the snot pummeled out of him for 90 minutes.
