Jack Nicholson has stepped into detective Jake Gittes shoes twice on film. Once for the highly acclaimed Chinatown and a second time for the less-so The Two Jakes. Now both movies are getting “Special Collector’s Edition” DVD treatment from Paramount Home Entertainment.
Unfortunately, as happens frequently in these situations, it looks like the real impetus behind this release is Roman Polanski’s noir classic, Chinatown, which is getting a decent amount of bonus material. Considering it’s getting four featurettes to The Two Jakes one, it feels like Jakes is just getting special treatment as a hope to cash in on completists who want both.
These Special Collector’s Editions are scheduled for a November 6th release date. Here’s what Paramount has released in the way of bonus material so far, along with the package art for both films:
