Jamie Kennedy Kicks It Old Skool
I’ll be the first to admit I’m not big into Jamie Kennedy’s style of comedy. While I thought he was one of the most brilliant parts of the Scream franchise, his practical joke series “The Jamie Kennedy Experiment” never held my attention. I thought his previous hip-hop flick Malibu’s Most Wanted was about five years too late and too poorly executed to be relevant, and Son of the Mask just showed how far the young actor had fallen. Yet, his movies keep coming.
His latest theatrical disaster was Kickin’ It Old Skool. No, it’s not a return to his Malibu hip-hop. Instead Kennedy plays a break dancer who goes into a coma in 1986 and wakes up twenty years later to find the times have changed. Still, Justin (Kennedy) is ready to dance to try and put things right again. The movie, which also featured Maria Menounos, Michael Rosenbaum, Bobby Lee, and Christopher McDonald, is coming to DVD on August 28th.
Fox isn’t putting a whole lot into the DVD, which will be a widescreen/full frame flipper disc. Just some deleted scenes from what we’ve been told. I guess that’s what happens when your movie makes less than five million total. Still, Kennedy fans are quick to defend the comedian, even if they aren’t willing to throw their dollars into his movies. Hopefully, for Kennedy’s sake, they’ll be willing to pick up his DVD. Otherwise, for the rest of our sakes, this might be the end of Kennedy’s overextended career as a comedic actor.
