Journey To Where The Wild Things Are On March 2nd

A wild rumpus is about to begin on DVD and Blu-ray. On March 2nd, you can bring home Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are on DVD for $19.95 or in a Blu-ray combo pack for $35.99.

Based on the beloved Maurice Sendak children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are tells the story of Max (Max Records), a kid with a wild imagination craving some attention. Max finds action and adventure by sailing across the ocean and landing on an island home to a group of wild things. The gigantic furry creatures don’t give Max a warm welcome, but once he convinces them that he’s actually the king of a distant land, he’s got the power to say and do anything he wants, even to declare a wild rumpus. It’s all fun and games at first, but soon Max realizes being king isn’t easy and his fantasy isn’t as great as he once imagined it to be.

Where the Wild Things Are is a little on the dark and strange side, but it's still a visual spectacle not to be missed. Fans of the book will be delighted to see Carol (James Gandolfini), Ira (Forest Whitaker), Judith (Catherine O’Hara), Alexander (Paul Dano), Douglas (Chris Cooper), Bernard (Michael Berry Jr.), and K.W. (Lauren Ambrose) brought to life. Some moments are questionable when it comes to younger audiences, but they're worth overlooking to let kids experience Max’s wild journey.

The details haven’t been finalized, but it appears the DVD version will not come with any bonus material. The BD, on the other hand, has a brand new short called “Higglety Pigglety Pop!” featuring the voices of Meryl Streep and Whitaker, a digital copy of the movie, and a standard-definition DVD version. What really seals the deal is that the visual expanse is one of the movie’s most exceptional elements. This is a film worth dropping the extra bucks on to see in Blu-ray hi-def.
