Kate Beckinsale Is Bringing Whiteout To Blu-Ray (Not The Liquid Paper Kind)
As a fan of Greg Rucka and Steve Lieber's excellent graphic novel, Whiteout, I had my fingers crossed for the movie adaptation. Even as the years rolled by and casting rumors swirled like snow eddies, I kept my fingers crossed. I remember seeing early footage from the film several years ago at ComicCon and being...uninspired. But still, fingers crossed. It was a great concept well executed, at least on the page, and the potential for a thriller set in such stark, unforgiving surroundings had huge promise.
By the time the film finally came and went, the early word was bad enough that I still haven't seen it. It's currently sitting at 6% on RottenTomatoes, and our own Josh Tyler panned it with a scathing one and a half stars. But I have to admit, I'm still curious to watch it on DVD. If nothing else, I'm curious to see whether anything survived from the original other than bare, frozen bones.
Whiteout fans, whether curious or masochistic, will get the chance to see whether Kate Beckinsale can do US Marshal Carrie Stetko justice or not when the film hits Blu-ray and DVD January 19th. Unfortunately, it looks like the special features are Blu-ray exclusive, so I'm thinking this one will just be a Netflix drive-by for me, if anything.
