The Last Mimsy Arrives On July 10th
Ready for a new children’s adventure? Then follow Emma and Noah as they attempt to help discover the secret of The Last Mimsy, a lighthearted adventure through time and space, coming to DVD on July 10th.
Emma and Noah are siblings who discover a mysterious box while playing on the beach. At first the items they pull from the box just seem like cool, space-age toys, but little do they know the future of another civilization lies through uncovering their secrets. Adapted from the short Lewis Padgett story, “Mimsy Were the Borogroves” the movie stars Timothy Hutton, Joely Richardson, Rainn Wilson, and Michael Clarke Duncan, as well as child stars Chris O’Neil and Rhiannon Leigh Wryn.
Children’s movies can get away with fewer extras on their DVD releases, because their target audience is typically less interested in how a movie was made. New Line isn’t taking the easy way out with this DVD, however, and it’s coming with quite a package of extra material with an "all-access pass":
“All-Access Pass” features:
- Feature-length audio commentary from director Bob Shaye
- Roger Waters – “Hello (I Love You)” music video
- Deleted scenes with an introduction and audio commentary from director Bob Shaye
- “Adapting the Story”
- “Bob Shaye: Director Profile”
- “Casting the Kids”
- “Production Design and Concept Art” with optional commentary by director Bob Shaye and production designer Barry Chusid
- “Real is Good: The Visual Effects”
- “Editing and Music”
- Theatrical trailer
- Beyond-the-Movie (TM) featurettes: - “The Mandala: An Imaginary Palace”
- “The Looking Glass: Emma and Alice”
- “Sound Waves: Listening to the Universe”
- “DNA: The Human Blueprint”
- “Nanotechnology: The Human Revolution”
- “Wormholes: Fantasy or Science” - Interactive game
I never cared much for the poster for the film, so this is a case where stepping away from that for the DVD art is a vast improvement. Take a look at the cool artwork for the DVD and don’t forget The Last Mimsy on July 10th.
