Leverage: Season 2 Robs From The Rich On DVD May 25th
Leverage is one of the most purely fun shows I've seen in a long time. Created by Chris Downey and John Rogers (who's actually a much better writer than his produced resume would suggest), the show follows a team of thieves and con artists who decide to use their powers for good and start making life miserable for corrupt corporate fat cats, corrupt government contractors, and various other professionals possessed of varying degrees of corruption. Overseen and assembled by former insurance investigator Nathan Ford (Timothy Hutton), the team includes a grifter (Coupling's Gina Bellman), a slightly insane expert thief (Beth Riesgraf), a tech specialist (Aldis Hodge), and the muscle (Angel's Christian Kane). The show is clever, fast-paced, and funny as hell, and you can't beat the wish fulfillment of seeing the sort of people who get away with it in real life get their just desserts on TV.
Season 2 shook things up a bit when actress Gina Bellman got knocked up, forcing the writers to introduce a temporary replacement in the form of Tara Cole (Star Trek: Voyager's Jeri Ryan), a stunning grifter hand-picked by Bellman's Sophie to cover for her during her absence. Having just wrapped up its excellent second season, Leverage has already been renewed for a third. Season 2 is coming to DVD May 25th courtesy of Paramount Home Entertainment, and this is one purchase we recommend without reservation. If you're curious to find out if you want to throw down your hard-earned $39.99 both seasons of the show are also streaming over on Netflix. Here's the rundown for the set:
