Lloyd Meets Girl In Say Anything
It’s one thing to get some good reviews, but it’s another to get a perfect score on the Tomatometer. Say Anything was praised by critics and fans across the board, and now you can love Lloyd Dobler all over again, because Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment releases Say Anything 20th Anniversary Edition on DVD and Blu-ray November 3rd.
Academics may not be Lloyd’s (John Cusack) top priority, but the school valedictorian certainly is. Diane Court (Ione Skye) is the epitome of a geek. She’s kept her head in her books and away from her peers in order to achieve her high school’s top honor and a prestigious scholarship to study in England. When Lloyd falls for Diane, she unexpectedly returns the sentiment. However, Diane’s dad (John Mahoney) puts the brakes on their budding relationship, fearing this underachiever will tarnish his daughter’s future. For the rest of the summer Lloyd does everything he can to try and win her back before she leaves for England.
When a movie is still beloved 20 years after its release, you have to go big. Both the DVD and the Blu-ray versions of Say Anything come with an impressive selection of bonus features, with items from the original DVD release as well as some brand new material. Features from the 2002 release are an introduction and commentary by Cameron Crowe, Cusack, and Sky; alternate scenes; deleted scenes; extended scenes; a vintage featurette; theatrical trailers; TV spots; and a photo gallery. Then there are two brand new featurettes, “A Conversation with Cameron Crowe” and “I Love Say Anything …!” Exclusive to the Blu-ray edition are a new trivia track called “To Know Say Anything … is to Love It!” and “An Iconic Film Revisited: Say Anything … 20 Years Later.”
For just $19.98 for the DVD or $34.99 for the BD, Say Anything 20th Anniversary Edition is a sensible buy for fans and newcomers alike. You just can’t say no to Lloyd Dobler.
