Lock Your Doors: Lakeview Terrace Is Coming
Having your house broken into is a very frightening occurrence. Having your house broken into by a bitter police officer that happens to be your next-door neighbor brings that fear to an unprecedented level. And did I mention that that police officer is Samuel L. Jackson? Watch out because on January 27th Lakeview Terrace hits DVD and Blu-ray.
Jackson plays LAPD officer Abel Turner, a single father of two who appoints himself neighborhood watchdog. When a young couple, Chris (Patrick Wilson) and Lisa Mattson (Kerry Washington) move into the home next door to Abel, they find out that living next to a police officer might not be as safe as they imagined. After rubbing him the wrong way, Abel continually harasses the couple. What begins as a mere annoyance turns violent forcing Chris and Lisa to retaliate.
This so-so thriller is accompanied by so-so bonus material. The special feature list includes deleted scenes, commentary with director Neil Labute and Kerry Washington and three behind-the-scenes featurettes. You may not want to continue your Lakeview Terrace experience after the film has ended, but that doesn’t mean the movie was all that bad. It’s your typical dramatic thriller. The film’s intensity sparks a couple of skipped heartbeats and makes for a very suspenseful flick. The problem is, when you think back to the story you just took in, there’s very little that resonates and over thinking the film will make it seem more silly than thrilling. What it comes down to is that Lakeview Terrace is an enjoyable one-time adventure. Don’t overstay your welcome.
