Look Out For The Lookout On August 12th
The Lookout is already one of my favorite movies of this year. Ever since our SXSW report mentioned the film, it sounded interesting to me. Watching it just proved how interesting it was. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is quickly proving himself to be one of this generation’s finer actors, and Jeff Daniels steals scenes with subtlety every time he’s on the screen.
The movie follows Chris Pratt (Gordon-Levitt), a slightly mentally damaged young man. He’s not damaged on a Memento level – he just has problems sequencing events and such. The movie shows Chris’s trials just living life along with his blind friend and roommate (Daniels) – a life that is complicated when robbers plan a heist for the bank where Chris is a janitor, and try to involve him as their lookout.
The movie is quite brilliant, but a lot of people didn’t get a chance to see it in theaters. In fact, The Lookout is probably the single movie I get asked about this year: “When is it coming out on DVD?” Well, the answer is here: On August 14th, The Lookout comes out on DVD and Blu-ray.
The DVD isn’t getting a huge treatment, which I guess makes sense considering it’s hidden treasure status, and that it’s director Scott Frank’s first picture. Right now there’s going to be a commentary track by Frank and his director of photography, a making of featurette titled “Sequencing the Lookout”, and “Behind the Mind of Chris Pratt,” a feature exploring Gordon-Levitt’s portrayal of the character.
Check out the odd artwork for The Lookout below and go mark August 14th on your calendar right now. I guarantee you won’t regret checking this one out.
