Make Your First Time Viral With The Virginity Hit On DVD
Depending on who you ask, the teen sex comedy is a genre either time-honored or just plain tired. While the teen quest to get some -- and the assorted obstacles standing in the way -- is a universal theme, it's been so overused by Hollywood over the years that there's some question as to whether there's anything new to be said. Sure, there will always be a new crop of fresh-off-the-bus actresses to coerce into taking their tops of because it's "artistic." And sure, there are always a steadily updated lexicon of off-color slang to make use of. But assuming you're not working for National Lampoon's direct-to-DVD department, maybe it's time to give the genre a few years off.
Will Ferrell and Adam McKay will hear none of that! They've attached their names and producerial skills to The Virginity Hit, a new teen sex romp from the writing/directing duo of Huck Botko and Andrew Gurland (whose last credit, oddly enough, was The Last Exorcism). Ferrell and McKay's attachment has a certain logic to it, since when they're not making movies they're running FunnyOrDie.com, and The Virginity Hit's big twist on the teen flick is by filtering the whole thing through the lens of emergent media. Shot mockumentary style, The Virginity Hit introduces us to the virginal Matt, who has a gorgeous and willing girlfriend but hasn't done the deed yet because he "wants it to be pefect." Unfortunately, perfection may be an impossible goal when his step-brother decides to document the process by filming Matt's every embarrassing moment and uploading them onto YouTube.
The flick hits DVD on January 18th for $24.96, and will include a cast and crew commentary, a "Jersey Girl" featurette, a screen test, an online audition from FunnyOrDie, and something called "Line-O-Rama" (probably a gag reel, I'd bet.) You can watch the trailer below, which looks like it might actually have potential.
