Mankind's Last Child Arrives March 27th
Children of Men is one of those movies that offers the best of science fiction without resorting to the blockbuster use of spectacle to tell its story. In fact, there’s a lot more subtlety than spectacle in use as the story makes its social commentary. But you don’t have to take my word on that. Children of Men comes to DVD in just a few weeks on March 27th.
The plot of the movie follows Clive Owen as a former activist in a time where humankind can no longer reproduce. His former wife asks him to help transport a woman who has miraculously become pregnant, putting him in the odd position of becoming the champion of mankind. Owen is joined in the cast by Michael Caine, Julianne Moore, and Chiwetel Ejiofor in this Alfonso Cuaron movie.
The DVD has a decent share of extras, although, to be honest, I don’t know what most of these are. I can only assume featurettes of some sort, since the press release doesn’t give much information on them. I’m most interested in comments on the film by Zizek, whose essay on The Matrix film was incredibly enlightening.
