The Netflix Remote Will Make You Lazier But Happier
Many TV viewers have been making slow progress of linking programs like Hulu and Netflix Watch Instantly to their actual TV sets, whether through devices like the Roku Player or the PS3 or just hooking up a computer to your TV (that's how my boyfriend does it, though it's way too complicated for me to use myself). Now Netflix is going to make the process even easier, with a remote control that comes with a "Netflix Button" placed smack dab in the center. Now getting to the Netflix Watch Instantly streaming service will presumably be even easier than remembering to DVR Top Chef.
According to the press release, the remotes will come along with several different brands of Blu-Ray players, along with Boxee, Roku and Iomega set-top boxes. As Netflix Chief Product Offier Neil Hunt put it, "No more turning on the TV, going to a home screen and searching for the Netflix icon. With the Netflix one-click remote, it's simply a matter of pushing the Netflix button to instantly watch any of the vast selection of TV shows and movies available to stream from Netflix."
Sometimes there are inventions that make us lazier and only cause us harm, but this is one laziness-inducing feat I can totally get behind. The fewer plugs I have to rewire and buttons I have to push to get to what I want on the television, the happier I will be, and the less frequently my boyfriend will have to bail me out-- which makes me a liberated woman! Hey, Netflix isn't just making it possible to watch an entire season of Party Down without leaving the couch; it's promoting feminism, dammit.
