Newsradio Ends And Maude Begins On Sony DVD
The legacy of television is that all good things do, eventually, come to an end. Well, except for soap operas (but do we really need to see thirty years of “Day’s of our Lives” on DVD?). Thankfully we now have DVD to let us relive favorite moments again and again.
Eventually, new releases come to an end too, however, as happens March 20th for comedy favorite “Newsradio.” The show lasted five seasons on television and the fifth and final season comes to DVD in just over a week. They’ve been through “Titanic” spoofs, Jimmie James’ search for a bride, and three incarnations for John Lovitz (including his final place on the show as the replacement for the deceased Phil Hartman). On March 20th every episode will be available for you to buy on DVD somewhere, with bloopers and “the lost episode” appearing on this final release as bonus material.
Just like television, however, all exiting shows have a replacement waiting in the wings. In this case, the last release of “Newsradio” coincides with the first season of “Maude,” the spin-off show that made Bea Arthur popular enough to eventually star in the “Star Wars Holiday Special.” Watch Maude as she charges through her complete first season with the battle cry, “God’ll get you for that Walter!”
Both season five of “Newsradio” and season one of “Maude” are available on DVD on March 20th.
