Oceanic Flight 815 Crashes Onto Blu-Ray
Lost is so damn confusing. Even with tons of devoted fan websites and viewers dedicated to uncovering all of the secrets, it still seems as though nobody has a clue about what’s going on on that island. Could the clarity offered by Blu-ray technology reveal all of the answers we’ve been searching for the past six years? Probably not, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t go out and buy seasons one and two when they’re released on Blu-ray June 16th.
It all began with the infamous plane crash. You’d think having survived a fiery plane crash would be the most terrifying experience of their lives, but Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly), Sawyer (Josh Holloway), Locke (Terry O’Quinn), Sun (Yunjin Kim), Jin (Daniel Dae Kim), Sayid (Naveen Andrews) and the other remaining passengers of Oceanic Flight 815 have a lot more coming their way. They may be stuck on a deserted island, but their situation is nothing like that of Tom Hanks in Castaway. There are no volleyballs and no means of escape. They encounter everything from gigantic polar bears to the island’s malicious inhabitants known as the “Others.”
The 24 episodes of season two focus on the growing conflict between Jack’s camp and the Others. While the discovery of the DHARMA Initiative resolves a number of the island’s mysteries, it only intensifies the uncertainty of the survivors’ situation.
In case you still can’t figure it all out after watching all of the episodes, there’s some bonus material that might help you out. The first season comes with “The Genesis of Lost,” “Designing a Disaster,” cast auditions, a featurette about making the pilot episode, “The Art of Matthew Fox,” “Lost @ Comicon,” “Lost: On Location,” deleted scenes, bloopers, spoofs and audio commentary. The second season set has audio commentary, “Fire & Water: Anatomy of an Episode,” “Lost: On Location,” “The World According to Sawyer,” “Canine Castaway,” deleted scenes, bloopers, “Mysteries, Theories and Conspiracies” and “Secrets from the Hatch.”
Normally when I buy a DVD or BD with bloopers that’s the first special feature I watch, but in this case, the spoof segment might be number one. Who doesn’t love a good parody, especially when it’s about a show that’s such an easy target. “Canine Castaway” will definitely appeal to every dog-loving Lost fan. Forget Walt, I was more concerned about his golden retriever Vincent!
While the first two seasons of this show may have hazy conclusions, this article certainly will not: you must buy the complete first and second seasons of Lost on Blu-ray. Yes, $69.99 is a lot to be asking for one show season, but think, if you were stranded on the island like the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815 you couldn’t even watch TV. Okay, that was a lame excuse, but the show is great and worth owning.
