With the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still in theaters this December, now is the time to acquaint (or re-acquaint) yourself with the 1951 original. Lucky for you, then, that Fox is releasing the The Day the Earth Stood Still in beautiful high definition Blu-ray on December 2nd. Now Klattu can barada nikto his brains out.
If you don’t have Blu-ray, you can pick up the 2-disc DVD and be happy with your less pristine picture. The list of extras are similar and some of them are holdovers from a previous DVD release, but there are some new items and some exclusives to the Blu-ray disc, like “Gort Command,” an interactive game. Sounds very thrilling.
The original movie did not have the amazing thespian talents of Keanu Reeves, but it made do with Patricia Neal and Michel Rennie. The director was two-time Oscar winner Robert Wise, who also caused so much trouble between the Jets and the Sharks. The story of an alien who wanted earthlings to stop being such blood thirsty tools is a timeless classic. We haven’t been given the box art yet, but check out the extras below and be on the lookout for your Blu-ray copy in December.
