Paramount Blu-Ray Titles To Get Head Start Over Standard DVD
Blu-ray might not have become quite the phenomenon Hollywood wishes it would yet, but that isn’t stopping Paramount casting another vote of confidence in the format. Variety is reporting that, beginning with Dance Flick on September 8th, Paramount will release some upcoming Blu-ray products weeks or even months before the standard DVD version is released.
Disney has already tried something similar with a few of their titles including Bolt and Bedtime Stories, both of which were -- in theory, at least -- supposed to hit Blu-ray several days before regular DVD. They’ll give it another shot later this year when Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs hits Blu-ray on October 6th, with the standard release arriving on November 24th.
Rental versions of Paramount’s standard DVDs will come out at the same time as the Blu-rays, if you simply must see the latest Wayans opus ASAP and don’t have a Blu-ray player. I personally look forward to being able to not purchase Dance Flick on September 8th, and then not purchase it again several weeks later.
