Pick Of The Week: City Of Ember
I’m going out on a limb this week and trusting someone else’s opinion, primarily because I haven’t seen the movie I’m choosing as this week’s Pick of the Week. I haven’t seen the movie I wanted to pick without outside interference either, Repo! The Genetic Opera, and I figure hearing several people tell me good things about a movie is probably a safer bet than a movie I just want to be good.
City of Ember is based on a novel I haven’t read, about an underground city that starts facing its own demise as the power and resources for the city begin to fade. Of all people, two kids wind up on a bit of a quest to save the city and the populace found there.
The movie didn’t do well at the box office, but it wound up on our list of overlooked movies in 2008, that’s how strongly the staff here who saw it thought of it. I can’t say I’m among them yet, but with the movie coming out on DVD this week (but not Blu-ray), hopefully I’ll be joining them in that opinion soon.
