Reminder: Shout! Factory Is Releasing The Complete Larry Sanders Show Next Week
Shout! Factory continues to enamor itself to both myself and TV fans as a whole by putting out quality, extras-packed editions of shows that otherwise might never be given the sort of release they deserve. They first got my attention years ago, back before I was a hard-drinkin' blogger with my finger on the pulse of the DVD industry, with their release of the criminally underseen My So-Called Life. Since then, they've built their catalogue with tons of interesting shows and pop-culture relics: Freaks and Geeks, Max Headroom, Miracles, The Middle Man, Sports Night, and of course the recently announced Dark Skies. Next week they're bringing one of the holy grails of television to DVD in a much-awaited complete-series set: The Larry Sanders Show starring Garry Shandling, Rip Torn, and Jeffrey Tambor.
For a long time, it looked like we might never get a proper series release of the show, despite it being one of the best comedies ever aired, having racked up an impressive three Emmys and 56 Emmy nominations. After a first-season release failed to sell well years ago, the show entered a sort of home-video limbo. Back in 2007 Sony released a best-of compilation, but that was cold comfort for fans itching to line their shelves with a complete collection. Finally, Shout! is riding to the rescue with The Larry Sanders Show: The Complete Series. For $114.98, the 17-disc set includes all 89 episodes from the show's six seasons, plus an array of bonus features:
- Intro by Garry
- All-New Deleted Scenes
- All-New Outtakes
- Garry Lectures at USC
- 60-Page Collector’s Book
- The Making of The Larry Sanders Show: Feature-Length Documentary
- Garry Shandling and Judd Apatow on “The Writer’s Process”
- Interviews With Cast
- Garry Shandling’s Personal Visits With Guest Stars Alec Baldwin, Sharon Stone, David Duchovny, Tom Petty, Jon Stewart, Ellen DeGeneres, Jerry Seinfeld, and Carol Burnett
- And More
