Secretariat Early Out Of The Gate
Secretariat, the story of the horse that could kick any other horse’s arse, has been doing steady business since its theater release October 8th. Business so steady that CinemaBlend Oscar-predicting guru Katey Rich has given it an outside chance of being nominated for Best Picture. If that isn’t wowing you, it should. It’s not like Alice in Wonderland is getting the same generous extol.
As Secretariat dwindles into $3 theaters, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has jumped the gun and is already announcing a DVD release. The Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack is set to hit stores on January 21st. Buying the Blu-Ray disc seems to be the right strategy, as 90% of the special features are Blu-Ray exclusives. While the DVD will include “Heart of a Champion,” three deleted scenes, and a music video by AJ Michalka, the Blu-Ray will have seven deleted scenes, “A Conversation With the Real Penny Chenery,” a section about how the races in the film were choreographed, audio commentary with director Randall Wallace, a multi-angle simulation, plus the special features included on the DVD. Here’s hoping the Blu-Ray won’t be seen as further Nazi-type propaganda. I guess that’s a horse of a different color you’d have to see Salon.com about.
