Steer Clear Of The Brown Acid When Taking Woodstock Takes Blu-Ray And DVD

Taking Woodstock didn't exactly take the world by storm this summer, slipping into theaters with a paltry $3.5M opening weekend and earning middling reviews at best. Our own Katey Rich only gave it three stars, so what went wrong? It's got a masterful director in Ang Lee, a solid enough premise, and a cast including talented performers like Emile Hirsch, Eugene Levy, and Liev Schreiber. It's the sort of movie I'm curious enough to check out on DVD despite the mediocre word of mouth, and I'll get the chance on December 15th.

In Taking Woodstock, Elliot Tiber (Demetri Martin) recognizes a business opportunity for his parents' run-down motel when he hears that an upcoming music festival set to take place in a nearby town has just had its permit yanked. He intervenes to lure the event to their neck of the woods and inadvertently helps bring about one of the defining pop-culture moments of the 20th century. The flick is available on both Blu-ray for $39.98 and DVD for $29.98, and will include a selection of extras designed to help open the doors of your perception. Of, you know, how they made the movie, I mean. Groovy.
