Stone's World Trade Center Arrives December 12th
2006 is the year of the 9/11 film. Both Paul Greengrass’s United 93 and Oliver Stone’s World Trade Center hit theaters earlier this year. United 93 already had a successful DVD release and now Stone’s film is following suit with a December 12th release date.
World Trade Center focuses its story on the effects of the 9/11 attack on a pair of Port Authority policemen trapped in the wreckage of the trade center towers and their families. As one would expect, the story is raw and emotional with performances from a talented group of actors including Nicolas Cage, Michael Peña, Maria Bello, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.
According to the Paramount press release, the DVD release includes the following features:
- Closed captioning for the hearing impaired
- Commentary by director Oliver Stone
- Commentary by John McLoughlin, Will Jimeno and Scott Strauss
- 9 Deleted/Extended Scenes with optional commentary
- The Making of World Trade Center (3 parts)
- Common Sacrifices (2 parts)
- Building Ground Zero
- Visual and Special Effects
- Oliver Stone's New York
- Theatrical Trailer
- 4 TV Spots
- Galleries
- Amazon Clip
I have to be honest. I’ve never been thrilled with the idea of these movies about 9/11. I’m one of the few who think it’s too soon for movies about the events of that day. Additionally, this DVD release is looking more like a standard approach for films and not the more respectful, basic memorial approach United 93 took. I guess we’ll see how World Trade Center actually stands up on December 12th.
